To be somebody – means changing

To be somebody

is to change the template

of your life to avoid staleness

and try to achieve freshness

knowing that the external change

is nothing compared

to the dynamic change of inner life

flowing from the Spirit of God inside you

To be somebody is embracing change

welcoming new ideas and creative ways

leaving the old template behind

moving forward in the fresh anointing of the Spirit

Looking with new eyes

To be somebody
is not only to explore
virgin territory or unknown places
but to look with new eyes
- look from new perspectives
- look with new perception
- look with new expectancy
- look for new insight
to the old and known world
to discover the virginity
and the hope for a new beginning
in the midst of corruption and decay
and than seize the moment
to make history
in our own little world
knowing that the great achievements
is the sum of all the small deeds of faith

By faith we can see
the impossible become possible
and the invisible become visible
and the world changed to a better place

Accepting ourselves for what we are

To be somebody
Is to accept ourselves for what we are
And at the same time rejoice
In all the good qualities
We are able to see in other people

To be somebody
Is to be yourself
Without being sufficient in yourself
But to develop your strengths
That all may see what you really are
To be yourself is to try to see something
Positive in your weaknesses
As you try to make them be less visible

Being a grandfather

To be somebody
is being a grandfather
of many unique grandchildren
and loving each one of them
in a very special way

Grandchildren are the crown of life,
crowning you with dignity and honour.
Grandchildren are the desert of life,
making your life radiant of joy
When you have many grandchildren
you realize that you are truly somebody
for you have achieved something very great.

To be somebody
Is being a grandfather of happy grandchildren,
For there is no greater achievement in life
Happy grandchildren prove that you have succeeded,
that you are somebody - all by the grace of God.

To be somebody is to fly with the wings of encouragement

To be somebody
Is to allow words of encouragement
To become wings of faith
Making you ignore limitations
Causing you to jump over walls
Motivating you to cross borders

To be somebody
Is to believe and receive words
Appreciation from unknown people
Praise from close friends
As seeds of greatness
Producing desires to serve
In greater variety and measures

To be somebody
Is to fly with the wings of encouragements
To new horizons of joy
In being connected to a new reality
Having your life enlarged
Being enabled to break out
Of geographical and cultural limitations
To explore the limitless sky
As prophetic words are coming true
In walking humbly with your God

Creating a new genre

To be somebody is to be creating a new genre

By your own simple artistic common sense,

Inventing a fresh way of poetic expression,

Making everyday life with God a special event,

To be enjoyed in all kinds of situations,

And made known in a new type of poem,

Free from traditional forms and norms,

But easily assessable to ordinary people!

(Written as a response to an encouragement from my friend Håvard Kjøllesdal who had written his first "To be somebody" poem. He sent it to me because I had created this new genre, in his opinion! I happily responded by writing these lines. Below I include his first poem in this genre!)

To be somebody

Is to be holy to the Lord

To set my life apart for the King and his purposes.

To be somebody is to highly esteem the blood of Jesus

To know that I am bought with a precious price

Bought free from the slavery of the world, and called into a life in service of the Most High God

To be somebody is to separate from the desire to merely live for earthly pleasure

and to give myself as a seed in Gods hand

and be somebody

who can make a difference in my generation

To be somebody is to have one great desire in life

which means more to me then a big salary and a successful career

a desire which makes earthly pleasure look small and unattractive

which makes me want to give up everything else that calls for my attention

To be somebody is to desire to do great things for the Lord

To be somebody is to desire to see Jesus and the kingdom impact my society

To be somebody is to carry a dream

to see the young people in my neighborhood stretch out their hands to Jesus

and say no to the empty life of their ancestors.

So that they can run with Gods purposes to the nations of the earth.

Being yourself

To be somebody is to be yourself,

Fully confident of whom you are,

Humbly fulfilling the purpose of your life,

Serving others in peace and harmony,

Living a holistic life,

Fully integrating meaning and purpose

In everything you do.

When you are accepting yourself

-         created in the image of the Creator

You will be yourself in a creative way,

Confidently exploring the talents given to you,

Blessing and serving your neighbours,

Releasing them to develop their own unique gifts.

When you dare to be yourself

You help others to be free

-         from the fear of men

-         from the tyranny of accepted opinions

When you dare to be yourself

You prove to yourself that you are somebody

And people around you will look up to you

Releasing creativity

To be somebody is releasing creativity in people around you

Helping them to leave the boring life of status quo

Launching out to explore the exciting life of creative adventures

The adventure of expressing themselves

In words and motions

In dance and drama

In oral or written form

In black and white and sparkling colours

Using pens and brushes, hands and feet

To unleash the impulses of their inner being

When you help people to be themselves

And to dare to express what they feel on the inside

Helping them to tap into the limitless reservoir

Of creative ideas deep down in their own heart

Then you really are somebody

For you are helping people to become a creative somebody

Spending time in airports

To be somebody is spending time in airports

Waiting for the next flight

Hoping it is not delayed or being cancelled

Looking forward to arriving the destination

To be somebody is to make time meaningful

By observing unique people hurrying to their gates

Or study those who are waiting like you

Spending time waiting for the next flight

To be somebody is to utilize the waiting time

- in airports or elsewhere

Through deep meditation or silent contemplation

Or by releasing your creativity

By writing simple poems

Unique strawberries

To be somebody
Is to marvel at the biological facts
Of the spring fruit strawberries
For strawberries are unique
- Not only in taste and beauty
But in their very construction
It is the only fruit with seeds on the outside skin
Birds and people indulge themselves
With this unique and delicate fruit
The birds become the source of spreading the seeds
Thus ensuring that we will always have the fruit to enjoy
People cultivate and grow strawberries
Some to make a living
And others to help people enjoy life

To be somebody is to marvel
At the simple facts of life
Giving thanks to God for the details of nature
As we worship him who keeps us alive
In mysterious and artistic ways

(Written after reading a comment by Jerry Mabb on my first strawberry poem.)

Creativity and beautiful living

To be somebody is to create life
In the virtual world or by physical material
It is to give it a new form
That touches other people’s lives
Because it stirs their emotions
Speaking with or without words
Making the imagination pregnant
Releasing exuberant joy
And fruitful ideas of the heart
Generating new forms of life

To be somebody is releasing others into creative living
By rejecting the self-absorbed life
For a life of generosity and nobility
The great things of a creative life
Come out of small acts of faithfulness and love
Every creative act is created in a generous heart
Not out of selfishness or self-indulgence
Creativity and generosity always result in a work of beauty

Free to create a new lifestyle

To be somebody is to be free
From dead forms and unnatural rituals
- of the old traditional religion
Not giving in to artificial patterns
- of modern Christianity
Not serving inhuman systems
- of political ideologies
Not giving in to any thing that stifles life

To be free is to create your own lifestyle
By submitting to the design of your Creator
Only when you choose to be the person
You are designed to be in the image of God
You are enabled to create a beautiful life
Because you are free to choose the beauty of holiness

To be somebody is to realise
That freedom and bondage
Depend on your own decision

Moving soil in a wheelbarrow

To be somebody is to move soil
To reshape your garden
And transform a hill sloop
Into a vegetable garden
By the use of a wheelbarrow

To be somebody is to look at the heap of soil
Brought to you by three big trucks
And dumped in front of your house
And behold beautiful fruits and vegetables
In stead of black soil
As you fill the wheelbarrow to move the heap
To create a fruitful garden

To be somebody is to use a wheelbarrow
To start a new life of fruitfulness
