Seven years ago I met Kul Bahadur at a seminar we held in Darjeeling, India. After six years I met him again last year at a gathering in Kathmandu. He had been blessed by our teaching and put it into practice. During those six years he had been instrumental in starting six churches. Three of them were quite big and the others quite small, he told us.
Today we met him again. He has brought with him a group of six men that are working with him. They call themselves Covenant Friends. The seven men in this group of covenant friends are living in a very remote area of Nepal. They work as wood cutters to support themselves, but use as much time as possible to evangelize and to bring the good news of the Kingdom of God to new villages and unreached people groups.
Since we met last year the seven covenant friends have started a new church in a neighbouring village, only two hours walk from where they live. When they go to a new village they proclaim the good news of the Kingdom, heal the sick and casts out demons. As the people see the miracles that happen in the name of Jesus Christ they believe and repent. They prayed for a man with one blind eye. Immediately he could see a little bit and within seven days he could see perfectly! One lady whose body was full of wounds got completely healed within a short time after prayer, but had tried many thing in vain before she heard the good news of the Kingdom. Thirty people have come to Christ so far in this village. They have all been baptised and being joined together as a living church in their remote village. Our covenant friends are visiting them regularly to teach, train and encourage them in the Lord.
This group of seven covenant friends are following up all the churches they have started, and they help the believers to make new disciples. Since our last visit they have baptised seventy people.
Our friends also told us of some of the difficulties they are facing. Witchdoctors are working against them with occult powers and evil ways, causing many problems for our friends. They are also facing many challenges from their natural environment in the remote area where they work. During the monsoon they face many dangerous landslides. Several of the believers have lost everything due to some large landslides recently, but God saved their lives!
